Let's Write Day
Hello children I'm Jude, an author and storyteller. Here are my storytelling mascots Lamby and Flossie. The whole of this year is the 2021 Livepool Year of Writing and everyone can join in with a 'Let's Write' themed day. We'll be doing lots of lovely activities.
Warm Up
We're going to warm our muscles and hands up ready for a day of writing activities. Are you ready?
Encourage your child to join in with the warm up exercises. You can remind your child about doing these exercises whenever they are doing some writing. Activities such as threading, playdough, pegging, cutting etc also help to warm up and strengthen muscles.
Use language such as warm up, muscles, shoulders, hands, arms, fingers, stretch.
Develops - Physical skills.

Take Your Pen for a Walk
Now it's time to take our pens for a walk. Think about where you'd like to take your pen and what you'd like to see on the way.
Talk with your child about where their pen could go for a walk. Maybe you could draw your own version. Encourage your child to describe the pen's day out once they have finished drawing. Use vocabulary such as draw, pen, felt tip, day out, geographical feature names, characters names, object names.
Develops - Communication and Language, Literacy, Physical and Expressive Art and Design skills.
The Story Tree
Now we're going to make our very own story tree.
Encourage your child to think about and discuss what their tree will look like - who/what will be in it, under it or over it. When they have drawn their tree encourage your child to make up a story. You can scribe for them (write down their ideas) or encourage them to draw pictures to tell the story or write words.
Use language such as - story, tree, under, on, in, character names, ideas, once upon a time etc.
Develops - Communication & Language, Expressive Arts and Design, Physical and Literacy
Extension
1. Give your child a notebook (or some pieces of paper made into a notebook) and encourage them to write stories.
2. Try to do an activity each day which will help develop or strengthen your child's writing muscles - pegging, threading, playdough, painting, colouring, building etc.
