Winter Day
My name is Sarah and I am a children’s author. Today we are going to be learning about winter time. First, we will be finding out about animals that live in cold climates. Next, we will be designing our own scarf to keep us warm and wrapping up warm to go on an outdoor colour hunt. We will also be making some tasty melted snowman biscuits.
Animals living in Cold Climates
This is a lovely activity to teach children about animals that live in a cold climate.
Children have fun shredding paper/ tissue paper and hiding the pictures of animals that live in cold climates, inside the box and paper. This activity develops children’s knowledge and understanding of animals and their habitats. It also develops children’s language and communication and gives them opportunities to explore and experience, the natural world through play.
Design Your Own Scarf
Children think about a scarf that they would like to wear and design using colours, shapes and patterns.

Outdoor colour Hunt
Spend some time outdoors hunting for different colours. You can collect objects together with your child, or just spot things together and take some photos to share when you get back home.
You can print off the colour hunt sheet and draw pictures with your child of all of the objects that you spotted on your walk. This activity supports children’s physical development, going for a daily walk to exercise and keep active. It also supports children’s language development and colour recognition. This is a lovely activity to do together and gives children the opportunity to explore the world around them in a fun way.
Melted Snowman Biscuits
Make some tasty melted snowman biscuits together with your child.
This is a lovely activity using simple ingredients to create a melted snowman. This supports children’s creativity and introduces them to seasonal traditions to celebrate winter time. It teaches children to follow instructions and how to work together.
