You can do any of these tasks, in any order (but we've suggested a timetable).
Take as long as your little ones want for each task, let them use their imaginations!
Please share your creations with us on social media.
''Oh, we do like to be beside the seaside…'' Hello my name is Gemma and I am a children’s author, teacher and a mum. We love visiting the seaside during the Summer and today we are going to bring the beach to your home! Join us for lots of fun activities.
For our first activity we will be gathering up some natural objects like shells, pebbles, grass, flowers and sticks. Then we will make pictures in some sand using our collection. Try using water to change the texture of the sand. We would love to see your pictures!
This activity will help your child to explore their surroundings. Encourage them to talk about what they find and introduce new vocabulary to them. Your child will also be able to develop their creativity by using different media to create a piece of art.
Yummy Ice Lollies
For this activity we will be making a delicious, icy treat perfect for the seaside. All you need is a small yogurt, some soft fruit, a clean lolly stick and some tin foil. Enjoy your yummy treats!
This activity will require some adult help when cutting fruit. Encourage your child to be as independent as possible as they make their lolly. Talk about what the foods are like as it is a fantastic opportunity to develop vocabulary and it will encourage them to give clear instructions.
Seaside Role Play
We don’t live very close to the seaside so we thought we might bring the seaside to our living room! Gather up some blankets or sheets and pretend that they are the sand and sea. Maybe find some toys or teddies that could be sea creatures and splash around with your family.
This activity encourages imaginative play and is a really good opportunity to use all of the new vocabulary that your child has learnt today about the seaside. They will love to see you pretending too!
We are getting creative for our final activity. Gather together the print out (found below), some paint and a stick of celery… yes, you heard right! We will use the celery to print scales on the fish. Explore using both ends of the celery for different sized scales and try mixing the colours to see what happens. Have fun and send in your photos!
This activity will help your child to be creative and print using different tools. You may want to explore printing with other objects around your home.
