Today’s Activities

You can do any of these tasks, in any order (but we've suggested a timetable).
Take as long as your little ones want for each task, let them use their imaginations!

Please share your creations with us on social media.

Christmas Food Day

Hi my name is Emma and I’m an artist and a teacher. I’m happy to be here with you at EYFS Home for our Christmas Food Day.

Today we will be baking biscuits, decorating a chocolate log, sharing our special biscuits and making a yummy hot chocolate.

9.30am Activity:
Christmas Biscuits

In our first video we will be making Christmas biscuits. You will need: 1 egg, 200g caster sugar, 200g butter, 400g plain flour and ½ tsp of vanilla essence.

Grown Ups:
This is a lovely activity to do together. You can make Christmas shapes with your biscuits: trees, stars, angels and crowns. You can then decorate them together once they are cooked. This supports children’s mathematical and language development, weighing ingredients together and following instructions.

10.30am Activity:
Decorate a Chocolate Log

There’s so much yummy food around at Christmas and one of my favourites is chocolate log. Let's see if we can decorate ours with lots of yummy treats.

Grown Ups:
This is a lovely way to talk about traditions at Christmas time with your child. It is a very special time of year and shares with children how we can celebrate with food at Christmas time. Children learn that food is a big part of Christmas!

1:30pm Activity:
Sort Biscuits on Special Plates

I’ve finished decorating my Christmas biscuits from earlier, ready to share with my family. Why not choose some special and festive plates to share your biscuits too.

Grown Ups:
This activity supports children’s mathematical and language development linked to counting and sharing.

2:30pm Activity:
Make a Festive Hot Chocolate

For our last video of the day we are going to make a yummy hot chocolate. I’m putting lashings of cream and mini marshmallows on mine to make it extra special.

Grown Ups:
This activity is a great way to enjoy the customs associated with Christmas time. Talk to your child about when it is cold outside, how we can keep warm by sharing a hot drink and getting cosy with warm clothes and food.

If you've finished these and still have time for fun...

Magic Reindeer food recipe. Santa comes a long way with his reindeers to deliver all our presents, make this magic reindeer food so they don’t go hungry. Remember to use eco-craft glitter in your recipe.
