Maths Fun Day
Hello children I'm Jude, an author and storyteller. Here are my storytelling mascots Lamby and Flossie. Today is Maths Fun Day and we're going to be thinking making some maths resources, playing games and doing a bit of dancing.
Making a Maths Resource
We're going to make some skittles using old cardboard tubes and felt tips. We're going to write numbers on one side and add colours to the other side.
Encourage your child to find the cardboard tubes, write the numbers and add the colours.
Use language such as number names, count, write, colour names.
Develops - Maths and Communication and Language skills.
Try - 1. Making skittles up to 6 2. Make skittles to ten and help your child to write the numbers, add colours. 3. Encourage your child to write the numbers and add colours independently.
Skittles
Let's play skittles. Roll a ball and see how many you can knock down. Count how many you knock over and how many are still standing. See who knocks down the most when you play with family or friends.

Colour Skittles
Play the game using a ball. Knock over one skittle, turn it over and see how many points it has scored for you. At the end see who has the most points.
Encourage your child to play the game and see who scores the most.
Use vocabulary such as colour names, roll, aim, count, number names, the most.
Develops - Maths, Physical and Communication and Language skills.
Try -
1. Rolling the ball, naming the colour and recognising the number with help.
2. Rolling the ball, naming the colour, recognising the number independently.
3. Deciding who has scored the most and make up another game of their own.
Musical Shapes
Put on some music and have a dance. When the music stops can you make yourself into a shape?
Discuss and try the type of shapes your child could make when the music stops. Encourage your child to dance and make a shape when the music stops. Use language such as - dance, music, shapes, shape names,

Try - 1. 3 simple shapes 2. 5 simple shapes 3. Some 2D and 3 D shapes

Make up your own day of maths activities using the skittles and other resources.
