Hello children, Jude, Lamby and Flossie would like to welcome you to Mindfulness Day. This is a special day that will help you to feel happy, relaxed and calm.   Today we're going to learn about Mindfulness and how we can help ourselves be happy, calm and relaxed. You can listen to a story, make a happiness box, take part in the glad exercise, relax your muscles and enjoy a lovely bed time story. Lamby and Flossie can't wait to join in.

Make a Happiness Box

We're going to make our very own happiness box and so can you. You can decorate it with felt tips, stickers, paint or anything else you wish. You might need some help from a grown up

The Glad Exercise

Find out what has made Lamby, Flossie and Jude glad. Then you can tell a grown up or your cuddly toys what has made you glad.

Grown Ups: Tell your child what has made you glad. It doesn't have to be big amazing things it could be little things such as 'I'm glad you gave me a smile.' 'I'm glad I had a yummy breakfast' Then encourage your children to tell you what's made them glad. This is an activity you can do anywhere and at anytime.   Develops - PSHE and communication skills.

Relax Your Muscles

Poor Lamby is not very happy. He's lost his favourite toy and he doesn't know where to find it. He's getting a bit cross and a bit annoyed. Does this ever happen to you? Don't worry relaxing your muscles can really help.

Grown Ups: Do the 'relax your muscles' exercise with your children. Remind them not to squeeze too hard. Talk about how they feel once the exercise is complete. You can use this whenever your child is feeling angry or cross.   Develops -  physical, communication and language skills.

Extension

1. Sing 'If you're happy and you know it.'

2. Try some of the other exercises from the story.

3. Take some photos of your child being happy, glad or having a great time. These can be made into a happiness scrapbook.  Grown ups - Enjoy encouraging your children to explore the extension activities.
