Music and Movement Day

Our bodies are amazing, they are designed to move. Our brain and bodies love to move and the more we move, the better we feel and the stronger we become! Movement isn’t just about physical education (PE) and exercise, it’s so much more and generally a lot more fun when we do it with our friends.  Today the inspirational Helen from Music and Movement is going to show you some fun activities to explore movement and make our clever brains and busy bodies work together.
Hopscotch
Using chalk or masking tape mark out a hopscotch grid and play the game with another member of your family,  Who can reach number 10 first?  Follow the instructions on the video.  Skills: Number ordering, mathematical development, physical development, problem solving, PSED, coordination, balance, control, language skills.
Floor is Lava
Throughout the day take it in turns with your family to shout ‘The Floor is Lava!’  You must remove yourself from the floor.. stand on a chair, jump on the sofa, lean on the table and use your imagination! Skills: Physical development, problem solving, creating, listening skills, language skills.
Fortune Teller
Follow the instructions on the video and make your fortune colour, add colours, numbers and secret activities.   Play together, pick a colour, then a number…and your activity will be revealed! ​Skills: Creativity, physical development, colour recognition, counting, ordering, fine motor skills, gross motor skills, personal, social and emotional development (PSED), language skills.
Disco
Pick your favourite tune and copy some of these moves including the #Chairdance! If you are too little, you can use a cushion! Now make up your own!  Please send in your videos!
Extension
Think about the different ways that you can move around your house? Can you make an assault course, or a chalk fitness path outside your home for others?  Or can you start a new fitness routine or make up your own?  Share ideas with us!
