Nursery Rhyme Fun and Songs Day
My name is Susanne Schroder and I am an author and illustrator.
Today we are going to have lots of fun joining in with some of my favourite Nursery Rhymes and there are enjoyable activities to match each rhyme. Have you got a favourite Nursery Rhyme?
Sing a Rainbow
This song is all about rainbows. I am sure you've seen lots of rainbows this year. We are going to sing about all kinds of lovely colours. Maybe one of them will be your favourite colour.
Encourage your child to join in with the words. Sing the song together at the end. This supports children’s understanding of different colours. You can find things in your house that are the same colours that are mentioned in the song. Children can point or hold up their colour (it could be red, yellow, pink, green, purple, orange or blue) when we sing about it in the song.
Find a Rainbow
Can you find some different objects around your house that match the different colours from the song? Choose one that you like the best. Can you hold it up when we get to that colour in the song?

If You're Happy and You Know it
We are going to sing a song you probably know. Can you join in with actions? Maybe you can think of some of your own.
Encourage your child to join in with the actions and think of some of their own. Clap hands, stamp feet, wave your arms, shout hooray, do all four etc.
Make a Shaker
Using instruments makes me happy. We are going to make our own shaker so you can have lots of shaking fun.
Use plastic cups, rice and tape to make a fun shaker for your child to use. You can use whatever you have in your house to make your shaker.
Put on your favourite song or sing your favourite nursery rhyme and have lots of fun.
Extension
1. Ask your family members which are their favourite Nursery Rhymes. You can sing them together.
2. Draw a picture of your favourite Nursery Rhyme.
