Redbridge Superheroes
Hello children, my name is Aletha and I am a school teacher. I teach at a big school in east London called Redbridge Primary School. It’s a lovely school and I’m so lucky to teach some amazing children. I can’t wait for you to meet some of them later. Guess what? I’m so excited today! Do you know why? It’s superheroes day today! I’ve got lots of fantastic activities for us to do today. I hope you’re just as excited as I am! So, see you in a while as we start Activity one.

The Superheroes of Redbridge Primary. We’re going to hear a story all about superheroes.
Grown-Ups After the story talk with your grown up all about superheroes. Ask questions like, how can you be a superhero today? What super powers will you have? What does your superhero look like? How can you use your super powers to help others today?

Make a superhero mask!
The children at Redbridge Primary demonstrate how to make a superhero mask.
Grown- Ups: Talk to your child about why we might have to wear mask at the moment. Then explain about people who have to wear masks for the jobs they are doing and how they can keep themselves and others safe at this time. Talk about our key workers and how they are the real superheroes! Make a mask with your child using the ideas from the video. You can work together to draw any pattern you like! You can share your designs with us and we can display them in the gallery.
Which material makes the best cape for a superhero?
We are going to find out with the children from Redbridge Primary School which material makes the best cape for a superhero.
Grown Ups: Watch the video together and talk about which material was best for the superhero cape? Talk to your child about what they would use to make a cape and why. Have a go at your own superhero investigation. This supports children’s communication and language and finding out about the world around them.
Extension
Superheroes have to run in all sorts of weather. Why not try adding some water to your capes to see what difference that makes? Maybe you can make a cape from a different material like a silk scarf? Whatever you do, I really hope you had fun today!
