This book allows lots of discussion about the sea, seals birth places, and plastic waste. The book highlights the importance of not going too close to baby seal pups, not leaving plastics on the beach and the good work done by seal sanctuaries. Develops Communication, PSHE and Understanding the World skills.
Make Your Own Beach
Have fun and use your imagination to create your very own beach. Decide where your seals and seal pups will be and what will be on your beach.

Draw Sea Creatures
Draw animals, creatures and birds found at the seaside. Decide what other features to add to your drawing.
This activity encourages children to talk about their ideas and use their imaginations. It also encourages children to think about geographical features such as a beach, trees, river, cliffs.
Develops Understanding the World, Creative, Communication and Language skills.
Does it Sink or Float?
Fill a small or medium-sized bowl with water. Collect a few items from around the house/garden. Drop them one at a time into the water. Which ones float? Which ones sink?
This activity demonstrates weight, mass and density. Develops Understanding of the World and Practical Skills.
Extension
The first baby seal pup was born at Donna Nook in Lincolnshire on the 22nd October. The pupping season for grey seals starts as early as August in Cornwall, then September-October in Wales and November-December in Scotland and down the East coast of England. I live in the East Midlands and our seals are mostly born on the Lincolnshire coast. You can get weekly updates by asking your parents to go to the Lincolnshire Wildlife Trust website.
