Trips Day

My name is Sarah and I am a children’s author. Today we are going on a trip to Ironbridge in Shropshire. We will be packing our bags with all the things we need. When we arrive, we will be taking in the sights, learning something new and then having some fun in the fresh air.

Pack a Bag

Join Sarah as she shows you what you will need for your trip.

Talk with your child about what things we need to take with us when we go on a trip. Think about what the weather will be like. Will you need a coat? How long will you go for? Will you need a packed lunch? Are there any other important things you might need? This supports children’s language and communication and personal social and emotional development. It helps children to organise themselves and plan for a day out.

You can try these activities:

  1. Talk about what you need to take on your trip with a grown up.
  2. Make a packed lunch together with your grown up.
  3. Pack your bag with all the things you are going to need for your trip together with your grown up.
Take in the Sights and Sounds

Learn Something New

Join Sarah as she visits the Ironbridge and find out some interesting facts.

When you arrive at your destination, is there a tourist information office. Ask for a map of the area and some information about the best places to visit to make the most of your day. Find out something new about the place that you are visiting. This supports children’s knowledge and understanding of the area they live in.

You can try these activities:

  1. Look for a tourist information centre or ask at the reception area where you are visiting for information on where you are visiting.
  2. Find a map of the place you are visiting and find out about the local area.
  3. Learn some new and interesting facts about the history of the local area.
Fun and Fresh Air

Join Sarah and Sue as they play some games in the park.

On your day out can you find a green space, park or area to play some games and make the most of being outdoors? Bring a ball, frisbee, tennis rackets or games of your choice. This supports children’s physical development and is a great opportunity to explore their local area.

You can try these activities

  1. Find a space outside where you can run around and get some fresh air.
  2. Bring a ball and play a game of throwing and catching.
  3. Make up a new game that you can play with your family enjoying the fresh air and open spaces.
Extension

Take some photographs or draw pictures of your day trip and share them with your family and friends. Talk about all the things that you did together.
