Whatever the Weather Day
Hello children I'm Jude, an author and storyteller. Here are my storytelling mascots Lamby and Flossie. Today we are going to share some activities you can do whatever the weather. It's going to be lots of fun.
Playing in the Wind
You'll need some ribbon, scarves, pieces of wool or string. Let's see how they can dance in the wind.
Encourage your child to select some items which can be hung on a washing line (or a tree/railings etc) You may need to help them attach the items. Talk about the wind and how the items move.
Use language such as wind, weather, dance, sway, swing, ribbon, scarf, wool, blowy, blow.
Develops - Communication and Language, Understanding the World skills and PSED
Depending on your child's age you may like to try the following.
1. Encourage them to choose the materials and ribbons and attempt to hang them up or tie them.
2. Choose a range of materials and hang or tie them onto the washing line/railings with help if needed.
3. Choose and hang/tie on a range of materials indpendently.
Make a Pinwheel
I'm going to show you how to make a pinwheel to catch the wind.
You will need
* A square piece of paper.
* A pencil
* A ruler
* Scissors
* A pin
* Doweling or a straw

We're Ready for the Weather
We can enjoy the outdoors whatever the weather, we just need the right clothes. We're going to think about which clothes we'll need for which weather.
Talk with your child about what sort of clothes are needed for different types of weather. Help them to decide which clothes would be best for a walk when it's sunny, rainy or cold
Use vocabulary such as weather, clothes, sun, cold, wind, rain, wellies, waterproof, sunhat, coat etc.
Develops - Understanding the World and Communication and Language skills.
Depending on your child's age you might like to try the following.
1. Discuss which clothes are best for which weather using their own clothes as examples.
2. Encourage the children to draw clothes to match the weather.
3. Encourage children to draw clothes to match the weather or make a list of clothes to match different types of weather.
Whatever the Weather Walk
Join Jude, Lamby and Flossie and some of their friends on a Whatever the Weather Walk.
Talk about where you could go for a walk near you whatever the weather. Use language such as - walk, weather, woods, park, beach, hill, geographical feature names, outdoors, outside.. Develops - Physical, Communication & Language, and Understanding the World skills.
Depending on the age of your child, you could try the following.
1. Talk about a place you could visit for a day out and what you might need to wear for the weather.
2. Discuss the clothes you would need for a day out in the sun and then in the rain. What's the same or different?
3. Encourage your child to choose a place to visit and make a list (drawing or mark making) of the clothes they would need for different weather.
Extension
1. Make a list/draw pictures of the clothes you would need for different types of weather.
2. Plan a day out and have fun no matter what the weather is like.
3. Read this short poem about the weather.
