World Turtle Day

Hello I'm Wendy from The Sidlaw Hare. Today we are celebrating World Turtle Day. We are going to learn about the life cycle of a turtle, how to make a turtle, creating a habitat for turtles and how we can help protect turtles and the environment. We will end the day with a bedtime story of Jack and the Beanstalk.

Life Cycle of a Turtle

This activity is all about the life cycle of a turtle. You can watch the short video which introduces the life cycle.

You can print out the two life cycle worksheets. Cut out the images and stick them onto the sequencing page in the correct order.

If you are unable to print the worksheets, have a go and create your own.

Younger children might need more support with the cutting out. Sequencing and ordering are great skills to develop as we use them every day.

Junk Modeling

For this activity you will need some paper plates, cardboard, paper, glue, scissors and pencils or pens for decorating.

Create a Turtle Habitat

You can create a habitat for your junk modeling turtles from lots of different things that you might have around the house. I had some sand left over from some building work and used tin foil to create the water. You could also use different coloured paper to represent the beach and the sea.

Learning how to help look after our planet and the animals we share it with is a great activity to share with your child.

Protecting Turtles

In this video I talk about the things that we can do to help reduce plastic and disposable rubbish.

I show you an activity which is great for developing pincer grip and fine motor skills which are key for developing the muscles used when writing. The activity involves your child rescuing various animals which have become trapped in rubbish.

Extension
