African Adventure
Hello children. My name is Mark and I am a children’s author. I’m delighted to be involved in the EYFS author takeover. This is Monty and Cookie who star in all of my books. Today we are reading Monty and Friends' African Adventure and doing some fun activities around animals.
9.30am Activity:
Monty and Friends' African Adventure
I share my story all about Monty and his friends' special adventure to Africa. This story is all about how the friends save the elephant Kaluwa.
Grown Ups:
In the story Cookie, Monty and the spangles cross a river on a Hippopotabridge. What other animals do you think would make a super bridge? You can draw or paint a river bridge with your favourite animals.
10.30am Activity:
Make an Elephant's Trunk
Monty and Cookie went to Africa to save a baby elephant in the story. Now we are going to make our own elephant trunk.
Grown Ups:
In this activity we are going to make an elephant’s trunk. I have used toilet rolls pushed together but you can use tape to make it stronger or rolled up paper. You can even colour it to look more realistic.
1:30pm Activity:
Create Your Own Rescue
Monty and Cookie made a great rescue in the book. Can you set up a rescue with your toy animals?
Grown Ups:
Together with your child can you make your own rescue using their favourite toys? It can be anything you like and use your imagination to make it fun and exciting.
2:30pm Activity:
Kindness Paws
The story is all about kindness and helping others. Let's think about how we can be kind and make some kindness paws.
Grown Ups:
Together with your child, think of some kind things you’ve done or can do and write them on a kindness paw. It can be very simple like tidying up your toys or helping the grown ups in other ways.
Story time:
Monty and the Slobbernossurus
Listen to Mark read another story - about the Slobbernossurus!
