Daddy Hairdo
My name is Francis Martin. I am an author and an illustrator. Sometimes I write stories and sometimes I draw stories and sometimes I do both at the sametime. We are going to have a fantastic day based on my story all about different hair styles.

Daddy Hairdo
Daddy Hairdo is a story that I wrote. Sometimes the best stories are based on real events.
Grown Ups:
When my daughter was at nursery it would be up to me to help her get ready, as I had just got back from working a night shift. I would help her get ready and then the last thing I would do would be getting her hair ready. Every day I would try something new: Pigtails, ponytails, plaits. I was inspired by the wild hairdos of history. Eventually it got back to me that the nursery nurses had christened my creations ‘Daddy Hairdos’.

Create Your Own Hairdos
The second activity is inspired by those crazy hairdos from the court of Marie Antoinette. In those days the hairdos almost touched the ceiling and some ladies needed a servant to hold up their creations with a stick. The men weren't left out; they shaved off their real hair and put on wigs that flowed down past their shoulders.
Grown Ups:
To do this activity you can get all that cardboard packaging that's lying around. Some markers, crayons, staplers and a pair of scissors. Have a look at what I have done. Then design your own hairstyle together with your child. You can check out some websites that have pictures of hairdos for a bit of inspiration or try and recreate one of Amy’s hairdos. This activity supports children’s creativity, language and communication and expressive arts and design.
1:30pm Activity:
Plaits
This activity just needs three ribbons. It is great if you can find three different colours.
Grown Ups:
We are going to make a plait. I love doing this as it's so satisfying seeing the patterns emerging, especially if you have different colours.
This activity supports children’s fine motor skills and creativity.
2:30pm Activity:
Make a Beard
This activity is based on Edward Lears limeric: ‘There was an Old Man with a Beard.’ It is about a man whose beard becomes a home for quite a variety of birds.
Grown Ups:
You will need cardboard, a pritt stick, a marker pen and a pair of scissors. This activity supports children’s creativity, communication and language and expressive arts and design.
