Firefly Day
My name is Sarah and I am a children’s author. Today I am delighted to share my brand new story, ‘When the Fireflies Came.’ I will be showing you how to make a life cycle of a firefly wheel, make focus flowers and sing a firefly song too.

When the Fireflies Came - Story
Join Sarah as she shares her magical new story.
Grown Ups:
Talk about the story and how we can learn from nature. Print out the beautiful colouring of mother nature and retell the story together. Talk about when we are feeling upset that it is good to talk about our feelings. We can share with a grown up and talk about things we can do to make us feel better. This develops children’s communication and language and listening skills.
10.30am Activity:
Life Cycle of a Firefly Wheel
Sarah shares how to make this simple life cycle wheel for children.
Grown Ups:
Share with your child the different stages that the firefly goes through to become an adult firefly. Talk about how they glow and flash to attract a mate. Talk about how the adults lay the eggs and the whole process starts again. This supports children’s knowledge and understanding of the world.
1:30pm Activity:
Focus Flowers
Sarah shares how we can use nature to shift our focus.
Grown Ups:
Make these colourful flowers together with your child. Think about the animals that make you smile. What do they do? Sing? Dance? Play? Run? Use nature as an inspiration for your focus flowers. You can use them each day to help you feel happy. This supports children’s emotional health and wellbeing.
2:30pm Activity:
Fireflies Song
Join in with Sarah as she sings this lovely song to a well known tune.
Grown Ups:
Learn the song and the actions together with your child. Perform the song to the rest of your family and have fun. This supports children’s expressive arts and design.

The Lonely Firefly
Sarah shares this enchanting tale about a firefly who is looking for a friend.
