Red Day

My name is Rachel from Music Minors based in Shropshire. Today we are going to be learning all about the colour red. We will be learning a red song, an action song, making playdough and getting creative too!

9.30am Activity:

What is Red?

Sing along to the familiar tune of 'Frere Jacques.' The repetition of the song will help the children remember these simple lyrics.

Grown Ups:

Encourage the children to find their own red item to join in the final verse with Rachel. This encourages independence and also creativeness. This supports children’s knowledge and understanding of the world around them.

10.30am Activity:

LOVE action Song

Follow Rachel in the video to this fun action song.

Grown Ups:

Help children to follow the movements and instructions. This supports children’s literacy skills by spelling out the word love. There is lots of fun to be had together in this activity. You could even wear something red for it too! This support children’s physical development and expressive arts and design.

1:30pm Activity:

Making Red Playdough

This activity is really great for all the family to join in with and have some fun together.

Grown Ups:

You will need to heat the ingredients over the hob, but the rest of the activity the children can be involved in. The fun part is when you add the colour red. Watch Rachel and her daughter Matilda have fun making playdough. This supports children to follow instructions and develops their fine motor skills, communication and language and listening skills.

What you need:

Wooden spoon

Plain flour

Vegetable oil

Cream of tartar

Salt

Tablespoon

Cup

Water

Red food colouring

Zip lock bag

2:30pm Activity:

Crafting Strawberries and Making Fire Engines

Come and join Rachel and her daughter Matilda for this fun, creative activity.

Grown Ups:

First we will be ripping up red tissue paper and sticking it over the template. The texture of the tissue creates a lovely sensory feel to the template. Encourage the children to do this independently and the adults will only need to supervise. This supports children’s expressive art and design.
