Skipping Day
My name is Georgie and I am a dancer. Today we are having a fun filled day of learning different types of skipping!
9.30am Activity:
Skipping Warm Up
This activity is just for us to get our bodies warmed up and ready for the day so you will not need a rope for this exercise.
Grown Ups:
Find an area where there is enough space to skip. Join Georgie and have fun following her moves.
This supports children’s physical development
10.30am Activity:
Skipping Games
In this exercise we will be learning 3 different skipping games that you can play with your friends and family!
Grown Ups:
- Snake in the grass; wiggle the rope on the floor and try to jump over it without being ‘stung’ by the snake.
- Climb the mountain; start with the rope low on the floor and take it in turns to jump over the rope, carefully, and gradually raise the height.
- Climb the mountain in reverse; starting high up and seeing how you can bend your body to limbo under the rope!
This supports children’s physical development.
1:30pm Activity:
Skipping Songs
In this activity I will teach you a fun song to sing whilst skipping and jumping in and out of the rope!
Grown Ups:
I have added the lyrics and a link to a website with some other fun skipping songs!
This supports children’s physical development, learning the months of the year and expressive arts.
2:30pm Activity:
Speed Skipping
In this activity we will be exploring how quickly/slowly we can skip.
Grown Ups:
Ask your child questions like: how does it affect your heart rate? How does it make us feel? How many skips can you do in one minute?
If you've finished these and still have time for fun...
For today’s extension - here are lots more ideas for fun skipping games!
