Sports Day
July is an exciting month and in many EYFS settings we usually look forward to a fun filled Sports Day. This year Sports Day may look very different for us or perhaps it has been cancelled so we have a day of fun at home for you so nobody will miss out! My name is Gemma Everson and I am a teacher, mum and children’s author. My two daughters will be helping me today as we create our very own Sports Day at home with you all.
9.30am Activity:
What is sports day?
Some of you may have taken part in Sports Day last year at nursery or school. For many of you, Sports Day may be cancelled this year but that doesn’t mean we can’t still have fun together at home! What sports do you know? What are traditional sports day activities?
Grown Ups:
Grown-Ups: This supports your child to learn about different sports and gives them the opportunity to learn new activities and games they may not have done before.
10.30am Activity:
Make a medal
Join Gracie and I as we make a shimmering, shiny medal fit for a winner! We will award it to our friends or family later following our sports events!
Grown Ups:
Grown-Ups: This supports your child's self-esteem and gives them positive recognition for their efforts. This activity is a lovely way to celebrate your child's achievements together.
1:30pm Activity:
Amazing Animal Top Trumps
Grown Ups:
Grown-Ups: This activity supports your child to compare different animals. It supports language development, using words like faster and slower, higher, lower and stronger.
2:30pm Activity:
Ready, Steady, Go!
Now we have our winner’s medals and we have explored different Sports Day activities we can have our very own competition! This could be inside or outside using as much or as little equipment as you have. Be creative with what you have. Anyone who tries their best is a winner in my eyes so award your winners a medal and tell them why they are so fantastic!
Grown Ups:
Grown-Ups: This activity supports your child's physical development and teaches them about competitions, races and new sports activities, whilst having fun.
