Tango with your Teddy

Author and storyteller Jude Lennon shares her bi-lingual book 'Fernando Can Tango!' with you all. There are lots of fun activities to try too.

9.30am Activity:
Fernando can Tango

Meet Valentina, a flamingo who wants to tango. She's going to meet lots of animals along the way. Maybe you could make up some actions to go with each animal.

Grown Ups:

This book allows lots of discussion about speaking different languages, animals from other countries, dancing and more. Talk to your children about the different animals. The book highlights the importance of asking for help and fulfilling a dream.

Develops Communication, PSHE and Understanding the World skills.

10.30am Activity:
Animal Moves

Can you move like the animals from the story? Can you waddle like a penguin or stand on one leg like a flamingo? You can join in with my activity and then create your own movements to go with the animals

Grown Ups:

This activity encourages children to talk about their ideas and think of the movements each animal might do. You can research the animals online to get some ideas. As you point to an animal or say its name, encourage your children to move in a way to match the animal. Develops Physical, Creative Skills, Understanding the World and Communication and Language skills.

1:30pm Activity:
Make a Fan

It's very hot so let's make a fan to keep nice and cool. You can decorate it however you like. You might need to ask a grown up for some help.

Grown Ups:

Encourage your children to decorate their piece of paper however they wish. You might need to help them fold it so it makes a zig-zag. If you are feeling too hot maybe you could make one too.

Develops - Physical and Creative skills.

2:30pm Activity:
Tango with your Teddy

Have you got a teddy or a doll you'd like to dance with? We're going to listen to some lovely tango music and have a go at dancing to it. This is such good fun!

Grown Ups:

You might like to watch a video online first so your children have an idea about Tango. Then find some Tango music, press play and enjoy. You can join in too if you like.

Develops - Physical, Creativity, Understanding the World skills.

If you've finished these and still have time for fun...

1. Make your own Argentina Flag.

2. Learn some Spanish words - hello, goodbye, please, thank you etc.
