Walking Day
Today is Walking Day!
My name is Sarah Isaacs and I am an author and a teacher.
This is an exciting theme to have. I am ready to go and visit a few of the amazing places local to where I live. Get ready for a fabulous day ahead!
Grown ups: You don’t have to go on a long walk. It’s all about what you see, hear, smell and touch. Talk to your child about what kind of outdoor clothes he or she must wear. Is it sunny? Rainy? What is best to wear?
9.30am Activity:
Senses Walk
Why not record everything you saw, heard, touched and smelt. You might want to take photographs of your day out.
Grown Ups:
Perhaps your child might want to bring home some flowers or a pretty stone to help them remember their time on the walk. Talk to them about what they have chosen and how they use their senses.
10.30am Activity:
Walking- How Do You feel?
It is so lovely to get out in the fresh air. It makes you feel relaxed and keeps you fit too!
Grown Ups:
Talk about the benefits of going for a walk and keeping fit each day. Ask your child how they feel before they go for a walk and then when they return.
1:30pm Activity:
Walking Story
Use photographs or drawings done on your walk to create a story. Try to recall which you saw or heard first.
Grown Ups:
Talk to your child about how they think the story should begin. What pictures or drawings are their favourite? Think about how you record all the items they create on the walk.
2:30pm Activity:
Walking Song
This is a great activity to create your very own masterpiece. Think about what you saw on your walk and put it into your song. Once you have all the words you can add some music too!
Grown Ups:
You might be able to find some well-known instrumental music on the internet to go with your child’s song. Get the family involved and incorporate clapping and tapping drums and any other instrument you might find about the house.
