Winnie the Pooh Day

Hello children, I'm Jude and I'm an author and storyteller. Lamby and Flossie are my storytelling mascots with Little Lamb Tales. Today we are very excited as it's Winnie the Pooh Day! We have some lovely activities planned. If you have your own Pooh Bear or one of his friends, why don't you bring them along for the day.

9.30am Activity:
In Which Pooh Enjoys a Bird's Eye View

A few years ago, I entered a competition about Winnie the Pooh visiting my local area. I live in Liverpool so I wrote the story about Winnie the Pooh visiting my fabulous city. I'm going to read the story to you now.

Grown Ups:

Encourage your child to listen to the story. Look at the photo album and discuss what Winnie the Pooh saw in the story. Use language such as Liverpool, cathedrals, River Mersey, visit, Winnie the Pooh, his friends' names, other features.

Develops - Communication & Language and Understanding the World skills.

10.30am Activity:
Your Local Area

If Winnie the Pooh and his friends were going to visit your local area, what would you show them?

Grown Ups:

Discuss your local area with your child. Where could you take Winnie the Pooh and his friends? What would they see? Children can write down the sights or draw some pictures. Or you could take some photos of some of the sights next time you go on a walk. Use language such as feature names, area, local, geographical names.

Develops - Communication& Language, Literacy, PSED and Understanding the World skills.

1:30pm Activity:
Honey Toast

We all know that Pooh Bear loves honey! Let's have a go at making some honey toast.  You will need a piece of toast, a plate, butter (if you wish), honey, a clean knife and a clean tea spoon.

Grown Ups:

Help your child to toast the bread, spread the butter, add the honey and cut into quarters. Use language such as honey, snack, butter, bread, toast, spread, spoon, drip, quarters, squares, triangles, rectangles.

Develops - Language & Communication, Physical, Maths and Understanding the World skills.

2:30pm Activity:
Move like Pooh

Now it's time to get moving! Let's have fun making actions to go with Pooh, Tigger, Piglet, Eeyore and Owl.

Grown Ups:

Encourage your child to join in with the actions. You can think of your own actions or use mine. Use language such as - move, jump, fly, tiptoe, gloomy, space, Develops - Communication & Language and Physical Skills.

If you've finished these and still have time for fun...

1. Read more Winnie the Pooh Stories

2. Have a look at the map of One Hundred Acre Wood and try to make your own.

3. Dance to some Disney songs.

Story time:
In Which Pooh goes Visiting and gets Stuck in a Tight Place

It's time for another tale about Pooh Bear and his friends.
