The Lion who Longed for Spots

My name is S J Hudson and I am a children’s author and illustrator. Today we are going to listen to two of my stories. We will be making a lion mask, some posters and counting spots and matching them to numbers.

9.30am Activity:
The Lion who Longed for Spots Story

Come and join me to listen to the story all about Lottie the Lion.

Grown Ups:

After listening to the story ask your child about Lottie and what she learnt in the story. Talk about why it is good to celebrate who we are. Talk about the differences in others and how we are all special in our own way. This supports children’s personal social and emotional development.

10.30am Activity:
Make a Lion Mask

Make your own lion mask.

Grown Ups:

You can print off the lion mask and decorate it together. This is a lovely opportunity to role play the story together and develop your child’s storytelling language.

1:30pm Activity:
Lottie Counts the Spots

Join Sarah as she shares this counting activity.

Grown Ups:

You can print off the sheet to support your child.

This is a fun activity using the story to support children’s counting, place value and number recognition.

2:30pm Activity:
Qualities Poster

Sarah shares how we can look for the good qualities within ourselves.

Grown Ups:

Talk about Lottie and what she found out about herself in the story. What qualities does she have? Discuss the qualities you see in yourself with your child and then ask them about the qualities they can see in themselves? Kindness? Helpful? Caring? Friendly? There are printable sheets for you to use together. This activity supports children’s personal, social and emotional development.

If you've finished these and still have time for fun...

Read this short poem about a Lion.

Could you make up your own poem?

Maybe you could use the words you thought of to describe your qualities in activity four.
