Woodland Walk Day
Sarah
Wednesday, 15 September 2021
Hello! My name is Sarah and I am a teacher and a children’s author. Today our theme is Woodland Walks!
I love to go walking through forests or woods as there is just so much to see. I hope that you enjoy the activities that are planned for today. I am really looking forward to them. Are you ready?
Grownups: It is a good idea to talk to your child about the weather and what to wear depending on the season or climate. Do they need wellington boots? Perhaps a sun hat? Or maybe a jumper? Discuss this with your child and let them think about what they should dress for.
This should promote independence.

Before you watch the rest of the videos, you may like to search for some toy birds around your home so they can join in, too!
Mark Making
Rebecca Fisk
Sunday, 12 September 2021
Hello, my name is Becky. I have been a teacher of young children for many years and I also teach other teachers too!
I think it is really important for children and grown- ups to have fun exploring things together. I like to think of things to do that everyone can join in and have a go, whatever your age.
Today we will be exploring making marks. Mark making is something that people have been doing for hundreds of years, from cave painting and Egyptian hieroglyphics to drawing, writing and decorating.
When you do big mark making activities this helps to strengthen your shoulders, elbows and wrists which is really important to help you when you are learning to write.
We are going to do some messy things today too, so I hope you can find a space to play outside, maybe in your garden or a park nearby. Have you got some old clothes you can wear, or an apron?
This is what we are going to do today to make our marks.
(Outdoors) Water marks with brushes and water and a surface outside in the sunshine so we can see the marks disappear as they evaporate.
(Indoors) Musical marks with paper and a felt-tip pen whilst listening to some music you love or listening to new music you have never heard before.
(Outdoors) Splashy scatter painting marks which can be a very messy activity but is fabulous fun!
(Indoors) Floury marks involves using flour and water on a tray and getting your fingers nice and sticky!
Happy mark making.
Containers Day
Rebecca Fisk
Thursday, 9 September 2021
Hello, I am Becky. (Rebecca Fisk - an education consultant with expertise in early years and special educational needs.) I have over thirty years of experience teaching young children and training adults. I like to use exploratory play activities so children can play and create in their own way. Today I suggest some ideas to help you get started with exploring containers at home.
Children often like to hide things in containers. Enclosure and enveloping play are a common types of developmental ‘schema’. These are the ways in which children interact with objects through play and explore their world. Children all do different things with items, for example, some roll them, some line them up and arrange them and others may enclose or envelope/hide them. Boxes and bags are a great resource for children who like to contain, envelope and transport objects from one place to another.

Sticks Day
Rebecca Fisk
Monday, 6 September 2021
Hello I am Becky. My long name is Rebecca Fisk. I have taught lots of children before and some grown-ups too! I like exploring things and just having a go. I especially like activities that children, grown-ups and whole families can do together, whatever their age.
Today we are going to explore sticks. I am going to find sticks outside but also different types of sticks inside. Can you look for some too before we start? If you can’t find any sticks, straws, pencils and other straight things can be used.
The main thing to remember with sticks, especially the pointy ones, is to use them safely, then we can have lots of fun.
These are the activities we are going to do today:
Play ‘pick up sticks and lay them straight’.
Make tasty fruit kebab sticks.
Make ‘scatter stick’ art.
Make stick people.

Sunshine Day
Malvika
Sunday, 29 August 2021
Today we are delighted to be working with Reality Gives. They are a community-based non-profit organization providing access to quality education for children and youth from poor urban communities in India. Through their School Program and Youth Program they reach out to over 1000 young people living in the slums of Dharavi (Mumbai) and Sanjay Colony (New Delhi) every year.
“We strongly believe education is the most powerful tool for young people to break from the cycle of poverty”
Their School Program is run in a low income private school based in Dharavi itself called Royal City English High School. Malvika is the Assistant School Leader, so she supports all the classes from 3 years old to 10 years old.
The theme for today is ‘Sunshine.’ During the day we will:
Learn a song.
Create a sun mask.
Learn words starting with the letter ‘s’.
Count objects and write the number.
